Berrettini Wins Second Straight Queen’s Title
The Italian won his second consecutive Queen’s title on Saturday, defending his crown after defeating unseeded Filip Krajinovic in the final. He won the tournament with a 6-3, 6-4 victory, ensuring a place in the final. Despite Berrettini’s recent success on grass, his opponents will be far from easy. Berrettini is known for his giant serve and forehand, which are both powerful weapons. Although he is unable to defend more than 1,200 points at the Championships, Berrettini will be looking to take his second title of the year.
After winning Wimbledon last year, Berrettini has been in great form lately, having won a total of 21 matches on grass. He has a perfect record on grass, having lost just one match to Novak Djokovic. He broke Krajinovic in the first set, but was broken again in the second. After a break, he served for victory to win his seventh career title.
Berrettini is the first player to win two Queen’s titles in a row since Andy Murray in 2015. The Italian has won three out of the past four grass-court tournaments and is on his way to winning a Grand Slam. After his first loss in 2021 at Wimbledon, Berrettini was able to get back in the game and win his second straight Queen’s title.
The Italian is set to meet world number 48 Filip Krajinovic in the final. Krajinovic beat the world number 82 last year, and had a long wait for a win over the German. In the last week, the Italian reached the final at the Halle Open, where he had previously lost to Tim van Rijthoven. After that, he will face Oscar Otte, who defeated Swiss qualifier Jan-Lennard Struff to reach the semis.
In the other quarterfinals, the Italian dominated in the first round, winning the first set 6-4. In the tie-break, he had three break chances to level the match at four-all. But Murray’s serve was strong in the final set and he leveled the match with a double fault. Despite his heavy serving, Berrettini went on to win the decider, firing 18 aces to his opponents’ tenacity and resolve.
With a victory over the wild cards, the top two seeds will meet in the singles final. The wild cards defeated Andres Molteni and Roman Jebavy in the previous round. Despite Berrettini’s victory, he won’t be able to repeat the feat in the future. The tournament will have many new divisions and a wide range of amenities.
